December 2011 – Bile Duct Surgery Tomorrow

As you know, Lil’ Sophie’s had a nice break from surgeries. We’ve been able to use this as an opportunity to catch up.

Physical Therapy brought her a brand-new walker (previously mentioned), which she is LOVING. She’s exploring all kinds of things and never stops moving. The mall is her favorite place to go and she takes off in the big open spaces.

Who knew there was so much to get into?!?

Occupational Therapy is working on strengthening her hands & shoulders as well as food exploration. Thanksgiving dinner was a great opportunity to push her taste-bud pallet. She’s embraced it all, but so far her current favorite is Chinese food & anything spicy.

We continue to work with her on speech. Lil’ Sophie has taken to  mimicking sounds & talks jibberish. She’s even digressed from the words and signs she used to use. It seems that she’s concentrating so hard on trying to walk that speech has fallen behind. Her behavior proves that she understands a lot. Sophie responds well to the Developmental Therapist and will often do what she’s asked, including say ‘more’ & sign ‘please’. But of course, ignore mommy and daddy’s request to do the same.
It seems as if she’s right on track for selective hearing of a two-year-old!

On a more serious note, tomorrow Sophie has surgery again on her bile duct. This will be the surgeons fifth attempt at trying to make this connection.
We are asking people to pray with us that this surgery will be successful – that the surgeons will be able to connect the bile duct properly, things will go smoothly, & Sophie will recover quickly. Surgery is scheduled at 9:00am, and I’ll update when I can.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support as we continue this journey.

I LOVE to walk. But sometimes I prefer to chill as I ride.
