October 2011 – Fall Break

Thank You for Praying for Us!

There have been a couple minor bumps in the road since our last post. Lil’Sophie was admitted for fevers and rapid heart rate. But a round of antibiotics calmed things down and we were discharged.
Then a follow-up visit with her Cardiologist resulted in another cardiac cath procedure. One of her lungs is much smaller than the other, and will require this procedure several times throughout her childhood. This involves sending a wire-like tube into her veins in her lungs and dilating a balloon-like device in several areas to enlarge the vein pathways. She’s recovered from that as well.
And she’s had some fluctuating lab numbers which are now being controlled by some medicine changes.

Lil’Sophie’s big sister has been with us for fall break. So we’ve enjoyed the last 3 weeks as a surgery-free/hospital-free family!! I think we could get used to that. 😉 Sophie excels by leaps and bounds with each visit from Tessa. She’s finally trying to imitate lots of things – pointing & hand gestures, she’s added dog, bird, and sleep to her sign language knowledge. Lil’Sophie has also been imitating animal sounds – cow, monkey, & dog.

And finally, we believe Sophie has spoken her first solid identifiable word! In most families it would be “mama”, “dadda”, or “milk”.  Not in our house… Sophie’s first fluent word is APPLE. I would be so proud if it weren’t for the fact that there is no such fruit in this house. It’s merely because daddy is a fan of certain electronics. I guess it’s our own personal tribute to an amazing innovator.
RIP Steve Jobs – you have our child’s first word!

There’s definitely more on the horizon for Lil’Sophie but right now, we embrace today! We hope fall brings all of you the enjoyable time we’ve been having. Many blessings to soooo many who’ve been praying for us. You’re dear to our hearts and we can’t tell you how much we appreciate it!
