May 2011 – Slow and Steady

Everything's better when Daddy holds my hand.

We’re now having some nice slow days, as we continue to have Lil’Sophie on the BiPAP machine. The balance of pain meds has also come to a nice level without over medicating her. She still wakes up furious that she has such a contraption on her face. But slips back into sleep and rests as the machine continues the breathing treatments to open her lungs.

She’s doing so well. The chest Xrays are showing almost clear lungs. So most of the fluid has worked itself out. And as long as this is working a little each day, then she won’t have to be intubated.

Today has been so quiet that Bryce and I have finally felt comfortable to take turns leaving the hospital for a short time to run back to the house; take nice HOT showers, pack fresh clean clothes, and take a cat nap in a comfy bed. What a difference it makes! I feel for so many people here that do not have that luxury. We are so blessed.

We’ll stay on this course with the breathing treatment throughout the weekend and gear up for the changes that will come next week as they transition us out of the PICU. The liver team and surgeon are still thrilled with Lil’ Sophie’s progress as her labs continue to reflect a fully functioning liver. Thank you God! πŸ™‚

    • Thank you KK! I appreciate the encouragement. Once we get through all this stuff perhaps a little visiting road trip your way may be in order. πŸ™‚

  3. That is wonderful news. Glad that you can get the test you need. It’s very important for parents to have there rest too.Have a great day.

  4. oh jenny my heart rejoices with you!!! As blessed as you are know that God is using your family to be a “blessing” to many more. Your faith is unshakeable, an example of how we should all be :)) prayers continue :))

    • Thanks Emily! I guess I don’t really think of it that way. I just see us as people who need to work through life one day at a time. But I’m encouraged to hear that our situation may bless others. Bottom line, that’s what I want to come out of all this. Thanks for the continued prayers!

  5. God’s Grace is apparent in Sophie’s progress & that ANYthing is able to help her be at peace with that contraption on her head! It’s doing wonderful – important work – but goodness, it would irritate the heck out of me that’s for sure! We’ll be praying for continued progress and continued chances for hot showers & rest @ home for Momma and Daddy!!! God bless & continue to keep you close … Lee
