May 2011 – Line Infection

The first couple of days here at St Louis Children’s Hosp Lil’ Sophie was really lethargic and only wanted to lay and watch videos. This pretty much sums it up:

Just chillin'

The Drs have been able to narrow down the infection to a specific bacteria that is residing in her Broviac Line. This is good because her body is showing signs of recovering (no fevers, color returning, and she’s more active). But a line infection is tricky. She needs her nutrients, antibiotics, and diuretics through that line. So there is always a slow trickle going through the line into her body, potentially pushing that bacteria right back into her body and starting the sickness all over again.
Staying within a safe limit they’ve increased the strength of the antibiotics. It will take several days to see if they can kill this off. The last option will be surgery to remove her Broviac Line. The medical staff is doing what they can to avoid this. Thank you for continuing to pray for us. We are praying for the antibiotics to take out this nasty infection so no surgery will take place.

Wagon rides make everyone feel better.

  1. Of course I’m sending my best thoughts for little sophie. Hope the infection clears up soon.

  2. So happy that they found the culprit of the infection but it really stinks that its the same place where she gets her nutrients.Still praying. You are such great parents and have a wonderful little girl.I just love her eyes.Take care.

  3. Jenny – with everything you’re trying to do & keep track of, we sure appreciate you taking the time to give an update. We pray without ceasing – but it’s always good to know what’s going on w/sweet little Sophie! I hope you can feel the prayers as well as Sophie and we will pray the infection can be cleared up without having to remove the line!! Big hugs… Lee
