April 2011 – Evaluations

Lil’Sophie is still working through her evaluation appointments for liver transplant. We have a couple more appointments before they will meet together and decide if she will be put on the Liver List. But it seems that we might know something in the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime, St Louis Children’s Hospital has been really good to us. They gave us a toy children’s medical kit to help Sophie with her fears of the medical staff. So her new toys include plastic medical equipment, as well as real blue gloves, face masks, and a stethoscope. Not the most enjoyable toys in the world, but everyone is working together to help ease her through some of this process.

She is also learning sign language from the speech therapist and will show us the sign “more” when needed. Using picture references, she’s also able to accurately pick an item we ask between 2 pictures we show her. Lil’Sophie just recently learned how to push firmly on her toy piano to play music by herself. She’s turning into quite the little DJ.

  3. Yeh!!! Just like Daddy! We used sign with one of my pre-school students when I was a TA for SSD. Let me know when you need the sign for “potty” 🙂
