October 2010 – Recovery Mayhem

A quick update for those of you not on Facebook. Sophie’s Drs believe that her body is fighting an infection that they can’t locate.

Last night was filled with wild behavior. Lil’ Sophie refused to sleep. She kept kicking, thrashing around, crying, fluttering her eyes, and swinging her head back and forth. She was given a couple of strong pain meds, Tylenol, and a couple rounds of stool softeners.

Her ammonia levels had jumped up to the 150’s. (for reference – the last time the Drs said her ammonia was high was about 5 months ago and at that time it was in the 120’s.) Sophie’s temperature spiked to 103. They ended up giving her a suppository to help constipation. Their hope is once her GI tract starts working regularly it would also help bring the ammonia levels down.

She did ok during the day. Her temp finally came down and she stopped all the jittery behavior. She’s only slept for 2 hours in the last 48. Red eyed, and completely exhausted Lil’ Sophie is trying to have a better night. Although it’s 11:30pm and she’s still fitful and restless. We’re hoping a good belly full of food, and a little Tylenol will take her to dreamy land. We requested that all hard pain meds be ceased until further notice. The side effects are making her miserable.

Praying for some rest – for everyone.
