October 2010 – Recovery Day 2

Daddy and Girlie before surgery

Lil’ Sophie’s surgery went well. The heart surgeon so far considers it a successful valve replacement. She is still recovering in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Today she was removed from the ventilator and is breathing fine on her own.

She is no longer on any sedatives, just a little Tylenol for the pain. On occasion she still needs a small dosage of Morphine but it’s rare. Tonight she’s getting just a little of her voice back as she is unsettled and whining quite a bit. But eventually she whines herself to sleep. At least until the next nurse visit that wakes her up.
If things progress positively through the night we may move rooms tomorrow. But right now we are enjoying a fairly large room to ourselves. Its bittersweet to move. It means she’s doing really well. But when that happens we end up in a tiny room with a roommate.
