February 2010 – 1st Heart Procedure

Feelin' Pretty Good

Lil’ Sophie had her 1st Cardiac Catheter surgery in an attempt to fix her Pulmonary Stenosis. Basically she has a valve in her heart that isn’t functioning completely. The surgeons ran a tiny wire in her thigh, up through a vein to her heart. Once in position, they dilated a tiny balloon that would push the faulty valve open a bit. At that point, the natural blood flow of the heart would take over and the heart would work properly. But in her case it was not successful. We learned that the valve is actually narrowed and can not be opened without more extensive surgery. The surgeon also noticed that the veins going to her lungs seemed to be narrowed as well. However, we were told that her heart was functioning well enough. They recommended we give her time to grow before investigating further surgeries.

We also had our 1st visit to Genetics. The specialist took Noonan’s syndrome off the table after a physical exam of Sophie. The exam included all kinds of measurements and pictures, and they told us to come back in 6 months for a follow-up.
